Description

This was taken at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens last October. They are currently running the "David Rogers Big Bugs" exhibit. The praying mantis is 25' tall. I added the words "praying mantis" You can see more info on the San Antonio Botanical Gardens at sabot.org and more info on the big bugs at big-bugs.com Thanks for all the nice comments on my last image. A special thanks to those who faved it. I have to admit though, that the butterflies were being very cooperative, so it was not so hard to get two together. I don't know what they were putting in the flowers but they seemed content to stay and sip.

This rocks. Thankfully predators of such efficiency are NOT 25 feet tall...though insects could never support their own weight if they were that big. Their legs aren't designed for it. (Ugh, it's weird being a bug nerd at times.) Having gone off on a tangent concerning the biomechanics of bugs, I have to say that this is a fantastic collage. I love the whimsical nature of it and the surrealness of seeing a metallic mantis. This is wonderful work.

What a great exhibit to visit and I love how you have captured this sculpture. I love the top right one where he is peeking at me against the blue sky.

This is totally cool! What a great creative mind this guy has! I checked out his site, amazing guy, the story he shares of how he started is great and your collage is beautiful. Nice to see your son too, gives great perspective to that huge bug!!!
