Description

My first attempt at utilizing an underwater scene. I first tried to have them surfacing above water in Vue, but the pose would always be reset upon Import, so I settled with trying an underwater scene in Carrara. Maybe later I'll try again with Poser/Vue instead of Carrara/Vue :) I know I should have added seaweed or even small fish, and who knows - I might try that sometime again :O

Ah, there is no small fishes as these two have eaten them all... winks They look almost cute, only almost though as they are carnivores I would not want to meet when I am out swimming. Great render!

These are really cool! Did you build and shade these guys yourself? They are very well done. Nice work on the underwater effects too. One suggestion is to find a caustic gel for your light to get the underwater light shafts really exaggerated, and to project water/surface reflections onto your Mosasaurs. If you took a photo like http://farm1.static.flickr.com/97/244887979_12c2e11225.jpg (the first okay photo i found on flickr... you can probably hunt down a better one if you look hard enough) and made it black and white, and then tile geled it on your main spot light source I think you'd love the result! Otherwise the whole scene is great! The caustics would just make it amazing ;) Good to see another Mosasaurer out there. I've been posting some scenes of my most recent Carrara Mosasaur model lately too (feel free to check them out or not). I'm also a member of the online Palaeo-art site ART Evolved, and in Jan we're hosting a public online art show themed around palaeo-environments that this piece would be a most welcome addition to. You can check out our site at www.blogevolved.blogspot.com to see if the show is something you'd be interested in participating in or not. We're a site dedicated to the promotion of prehistoric themed art and the artists who make it. It has brought attention to many of our members, and a great place to get feedback and make contacts. Can't wait to see more of your Mosasaurs, and maybe catch you around ART Evolved...

I will check your pieces out Kamperbeyond, I look forward to it :) No I did not sculpt them myself, I did make an attempt, but I gave up after several attempts and just used Digi-I's model instead. I made my own light gel, for the spotlight above the ocean primitive, but it looks like only the seafloor caught the light D:
