Description

One of this boat's job's is to patrol under the West Gate Bridge. I won't go into it's actual role, but just say that the Christmas period is one of it's busiest times of the year. The bridge has always been a popular place for people who have given up hope, which is terribly saddening to me. Beyond Blue The bridge has had a sad past for another reason

On Thursday evening, a siren went off warning police that there was someone on the bridge over the Van Stadens river. The Thornhill police responded immediately. "On arrival at the bridge, members noticed that a man was standing on the outside railing of the bridge; then members suddenly saw the person jumping off the bridge," said police spokesperson Inspector Gerda Swart. "The bridge is very, very high. It's a vast long bridge and there is a river flowing under it. At 5am [police] went out this [Friday] morning," to look for the man," said Swart.
