Description

Katy Blevins cemetery is located next to the Clara Sue Blevins homestead in Big South Fork National Park in Scott's county, Tennessee. My brother Denny and I visited there twice this year and in this series of uploads I will share some of the history with you. I instantly bonded with these people that I have never met and their homesteads and what tragedies some had to endure such as Oscar Blevins and his wife. The first person to be buried in the cemetery was Jake Blevins, 1811-1869. The cemetery is named after Jake's wife, Catherine, or Katy as she was called, who is also buried in the cemetery. Many of the older grave sites in the area are simply marked with an upturned stone and are scarcely recognizable. A visit to the one of the larger cemeteries such as the Katy Blevins, Hattie Blevins, or Terry cemeteries will give testimony to some of the earliest family names. Jonathan Blevins, the first long hunter to permanently settle here, is buried near Station Camp Creek. I will show you in another upload the home of Jonathan Blevins and Oscar Blevins. It is left in it's original state and open to the public. Contact Info: Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area 4564 Leatherwood Road Oneida, Tennessee 37841 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Photo's of Jake, Oscar and Ermon Blevins opened to public use and used with permission.

I love History so this is my cup of tea lol. Once when I drove 18 wheeler for my brother, I went 300 (total of 600) miles out of route to see a Civil war battle field. Needless to say he wasn't a happy camper lmao.
