Description
Growing up on space stations and starships has their problems. Even more so when you are an albino with over protective guardians. Luckly her Auntie Roz understand her dreams. Roz does not get to visit K'Lia often, but when she does, watch out. In this visit, Roz steps in and sets K'Lia guardians stright on the law, 'HER' law. K'Lia will have the chance at her dreams.
Afterwards Roz takes K'Lia up to the station Zero-G observation dome, a rare treat for K'Lia. She loves it up here, with the view of the stars and the ships stopping in at the station.
[Roz]
Smileing at K'lia, Roz takes intense pleaseure in seeing her favorite little girl so happy. "You look so at ease and happy K'Lia, like you ready to take off and fly away."
[K'Lia]
"That's what I want to do, I want to FLY!" Pushing off the wall K'Lia spins around as she giggles.
[Roz]
Chuckling, Roz watches K'Lia.
"And you will child, you will. I have been keeping up with your studies. You show a natural appatude for intersystem and interstellar navigation, unlike any I have seen before."
[K'Lia]
Frowning, K'Lia twists as she reaches the other side of the dome. With her arms behind her she bends her knees up and back, catching herself, asorbing her momentium.
"That's not what I want Auntie. Innersystem nav is fun, and ploting a jump tumble can be interesting, but it's only a dozen minutes at the Nav Comp, balancing a series of multi-diminsonal wave hormonics, and it's done. Drives engage and you wink out of real space into jump space, then a week of waiting around for emerengence. But piloting, holding the controls of the ship in your hands ..."
Smiling K'lia pushes off from the wall and slowly drift toward her Auntie Roz, her every movement slow and controlled.
"... it's every reponse subject to a touch of a finger on the controls ..."
With a twist as she curls up into herself she flips over, and just as suddenly she stretches out again, upside down but still facing Roz
"... It's the power of the drives, yours to command, to lazily roll the ship as you dock with the lightest of touches with a docking port... "
With another slow twist she flips over once more, drifting towards the floor in front of her Auntie, her toes touching the floor, her upper body twisting with one arm stright out from her side the other out in front of her, fingers spread wide as the tips presses against the glass as she floats past Roz, her arm bending as she stops in front of Roz, face to face, noses only inches apart. Then with a shove of her arm she is flying across the dome, her body twisting in mid air, flipping and rolling only to stretch out feet first as she reaches the far wall, her feet hitting first, her knees bending as she doubles over, her hands grapping a couble of hand holds, her head lifting as she looks back at Roz, a grin on her face.
"...Or to hurl you though space if need be, the drives screaming, the feel of the hull trembling felt though the seat of your pilot's couch, via the feedback of the flight controls, the hum in the very air around you. The ship, an extension of your own body. THAT's flying Aunty, and THAT's is what I wish to do."
[Roz]
Watching K'Lia, Roz can see the fire in her eyes. This girl child knows what she wants, and will stop at nothing to achive it.
"Oh K'lia, you speak with the heart of a true pilot. If I can do anything to help you achive your dream, I will do it, for one must always chase after their dreams."
Watching K'lia as she leaps from the wall, laughing as she dances in mid air, at how easy it is for her to move about in Zero-G, her sure knowledge of where she is, her every movement sure and true, Roz is suddenly reminded of another albino, one of their own ancestors. They look so much alike, she wonders how much more alike they might be, and she hopes that if K'Lia shares the same abilities, no one ever discovers it.
Softly to herself, she makes a promise. "I promise you K'Lia, one day you will fly, free."
