Description

The night was soft, with a warm wind. Her bare feet could still feel the warmth of the day on the cobblestones. The boots she had worn were cumbersome and made too much noise, so she'd discarded them. Perhaps that was not wise. She had no idea where she was. She had no idea when she was. She had no idea who she was. Her tattered dress was damp from perspiration. She had been running for awhile. From whom, she had no idea. Where she was running to, no idea. All she knew was she needed to run, to gain distance from where she had been. The dress was dank and smelled of someone else - it was not her dress, that much she knew - and the corset made her feel claustrophobic. Something inexplicable and odd was happening. It was stranger than not knowing where she was, when she was or who she was, stranger than the dress or its unfamiliar smell. But there was no time to ponder that now. She had to keep moving. Someone was bound to find out she wasn't there anymore and would come looking for her. And so she moved softly, quickly on, her footfalls drowned by the crashing surf in the distance. The gaslight hissed on the wall. Suddenly, she perceived movement in the obscurity beyond the light... =================================================== There were a number of things wrong with the first image, so I thought I'd put up a corrected version. I've kept the original here so you can compare. Hey, I can do this... a woman's prerogative, right? The little lost girl is Charlotte, a freebie you can find here on Rendo. Notice how the yellow light brings out her freckled shader more...

When I saw your title "At The Edge of Light" I smiled thinking of my Grand Mother and could not wait to see the image. My Grand Mother was blined and I would have to sit and describe what the actors were doing, how they were dressed and sofort on her fav soap operas.... Now you kow your title made me think of "The Edge of Night"...lol, and you truely live up to it not only with your image but your narration as well. Bravo! to ya for this one, and I can only hope this is the beginning of a series.

you did a wonderful job of incorporating the story into the image. and the lighting suits it well. i'm still on my mom's Mac laptop, and it looks a little light to me, so i'm guessing it's just right. ambient occlusion on the ground and her leg might help give dress more weight and realism, and the ambient light might benefit from a little more bluish grey from the water and sky. i love how her skin and hair look. those are some great shaders. whatever you've done to fix her shoulders works incredibly well. i hope you had a great holiday! it was certainly more productive than mine.
