Description

Hello all. The Imperial Dragon Rider armour seen above is now in the Marketplace. Took me a long while to get this one together and again learned a lot--like what kinds of features Poser needs to seriously improve itself. Heh. Well, would like to re-render this already as Vue went and reversed a couple of the bump maps on me--I've noticed Bryce and even C4D do the same thing. Render a sphere with a bump map. One side of the render will have white render as bumped up, while the other side the white will depress. Annoys the crap out of me, but what are you going to do. Displacement I guess is the only option, but Poser doesn't do a good job of that yet, so no point in including disp maps with anything. And Vue doesn't like using them either. C4D does though. And very well at that. Anyways, the render otherwise turned out okay and didn't take that long to render. I think about an hour and a half. That is short compared to some of my renders. Hope you enjoy Cheers

Excellent image, I hate when Vue inverts the bumps. It always means more post-work!

This is a marvelous render, am glad you took the time to get it to work out right and for the tips about bumps and displacement problems with different applications.

I bought it this evening, but have not got a chance to install and play. Looks really nice from the promo images! How long until we get the saddle and spear? That's a smokin image by the way!

Nice POV. The dragon rider should be lucky its something he doesn't experience with only having a saddle and reigns to hold onto while in that suited armor ;) I feel for you with the bump map and displacement issue. Carrara handles bumps mapping pretty decently. Yet while it loads and uses poser content natively (without needing to pose and import it externally) however, I've found out I've always got to tweak the shaders so that Carrara uses those bump maps properly as well as adjust Specular Highlights and Shine (highlights are always set to a shade of color thanks to Poser's way of handling highlights). Still, render looks good otherwise. And Happy New Years!

The bump maps looks pretty good, yes that kind of problem is very anoying, I use to make a cheap trick with that using normal mapping, sometimes it is faster than using displacement maps. Awesome image!!! BTW Have a very happy year!!!

Cool fantasy scene and perspective. Not noticed that problem with bmp maps - not good.

I like the armor from what I've seen of it, it looks like something more practical than for show... armor that would really be worn for protection. Fantastic point of view on this shot btw, very vertigo inspiring! Hm I havent had such bump map problems with Poser unless using gradient bump, which I use very rarely... I've solved most problems that do pop up with a few tweaks of the dials. Haven't used Vue at all though so I don't know about that. Seems to me that bump/displacement/what have you needs to be adjusted in every instance for the light you're using in my experience anyway. =)
