Description

This is a late posting for Harry's (goodoleboy's) birthday. Sorry Harry...you may see this a day late but know my heart is in the right place:-) HAPPY BIRTHDAY! For those who don't know, Harry is a member of what we here in the USA call the "Greatest Generation",...a World War II veteran. Although I am off by one war...Harry, I hope you'll like this military theme for your birthday. Reflections in this glass case are meant to drive you just a little nutty. LOL. Location...National World War I Museum, Kansas City. Bill:) "Light and Glass ~ for Tara" thumb_1997117.jpg

Not the sort of baubles to hang on your Christmas tree. I also see a 'broomhandle' Mauser...one of my favourite handguns. Great capture Bill, and Happy Birthday Harry.

This is really astonishing...there are so many different realities and layers of reality in this image. The reflections are quite intriguing, and the people in the background are nicely mysterious...if you look at this and shift your focus around the guy in the baseball cap and the woman seem to exist simultaneously as solid people AND reflections. The lighting is wonderful and quite complex, it's shimmery here and there, and in other places it's rich with color! This is a gorgeous image and an intriguing topic. It makes me recall a performance piece/song by Laurie Anderson in which she asks: "Que es mas macho, Pineapple or knife?" I remember liking that particular piece because Pineapple is a pun for grenade--which I'm sure you knew. But it's not every day puns like that pop up in music written and performed by a woman with a hairdo that looks like a startled hedgehog. Great work! This is a perfect birthday gift/dedication, and a wonderful marker for the impending new year!

Stellar birthday greeting from one of my close friends on Renderosity, Bill! Late or not, it is appreciated beyond the comprehension of most mortals. That's quite a myriad of grenades on display at the museum. They look like little copper balloons floating about. I remember practicing with some of these beauties while in camp in Louisiana. BTW, just remember to thrown the grenade after you've pulled the pin. I like the "potato masher" type hand grenades used by the Germans in WWII. Is that a GI entombed in the glass case? And, I'm often reminded of the rapidly declining number of veterans from the Greatest Generation.
