Description

Happy New Year! (Still waiting for my flying cars....) This one is for my old friend Ellen who warned me that there might be trouble from that tribble I bought from ThinkGeek... oddly they had assuered me that the thing was sterile. I'll get you for this Cyrano Jones! Having a play with Modo 401's hair system. I modeled a simple blob shape and then applied hair. Messed around and learned some of how the hair system works and created five seperate tribbles... each with a slightly different hair shader. I modeled a simple floor prop with a step and then used the replicator to make a lot of tribble instances. Nice thing about instancing is that the geometry is not duplicated, merely referenced, so the memory overhead is not too bad considering how.. much.. hair... is in the scene. Lighting is Modo's simulated day light with full global illumination. Render time was about 4.5 hours. Depth of field was done in Photoshop using a depth pass rendered with the scene. I also did a bit of color correction and played with the contrast. Yes, the pink ones are an homage to 'More Tribbles, More Troubles' from the animated series. Thanks for your comments... no need to be too critical here as this is quite literally a bit of fluff for new years.. so just enjoy and accept our best wishes for a happy and healthy new year.

Oh my, theSea plus Modo hair. Looks great, though the furry black pair remind me of my kitty, lol.

Great work! I obviously inspired you with my recent tribble-inspired render! (Just joking, but take a look!)

Yeah, that's one of the troubles with them critters they didn't mention. If they can't reproduce one way, they find another. Great work and nice experimenting.

Too cute! I got a tribble for Christmas too. It keeps hissing and vibrating, so there must be a Klingon in the house. I had to put it up 'cause Storm kept assaulting it and pulling all its fur out. I hope to see more modo work from you. It's a wonderful program.

Well, you can do what Mr. Scott did, and beam them all over to the Klingon vessel. They love the little fuzz balls! Happy 2010 to you too.
