Description

Bryce Canyon National Park is located in SW Utah, USA. Contained within the park is Bryce Canyon. Despite its name, it is not actually a canyon, but rather a giant natural amphitheater created by erosion along the eastern side of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. The amphitheater surrounds the visitor with exposed, orange, red and white sandstone. Bryce is distinctive due to its geological structures of pinnacles, spires, columns and the hoodoos that made Bryce famous. The elements (sun, water and wind) have carved this unique landscape. Most of my photos were taken from the rim, which has an elevation ranging from 8,000 to 9,000 feet (2,400 to 2,700 m) above sea level. The Bryce area was settled by Mormon pioneers in the 1850s and was named after Ebenezer Bryce. ZOOM mode is a must. Some information from Wikipedia. Scanned from a photo taken in 1996. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments. Dana

I haven't been here for over 10 years, so thanks for posting your fine photo. I can remember having a thermos of coffee to drink whilst trekking around, and an elderly lady of the Mormon faith ripped into to me like I was selling Crack Cocaine!

Wow, remind me to never go sky diving above or parachute into that amphitheater! Keen light and shadow really pop out the sharp, craggy effects of the spires, pinnacles, etc.

When I first saw this, I thought of the Terracotta Army found in China. They look like they are all standing for inspection! Beautiful color, detail and POV!
