Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

This is a warm shot--about all we can do do ward off that COLD. The Irish coffee probably helps a lot, too, though!!

The thumb of this caught my eye from a mile away, and I was in love with it before I opened it or knew who had made the image! This is spectacular. It's hard to stop staring long enough to make a comment!

This is very nice. It's literally full of motion. What I like about this is the fact that it reminds me of those star trails you see in astronomical photographs where a camera is set on a long exposure to capture the stars and the stars themselves form concentric circles that overlap and blur together in weird ways, except for the one star dead center. No, this isn't a star trail photo, but it has that same vibe for me, and yeah, I'm a sucker for the almighty blur and streak. What I really like is the fact that you can actually see a passenger on the bus, up front. And yeah, it's frikkin' cold in Chicago so seeing a Summertime photo is a real treat. What's great about it is the fact that it's only the absence of snow and ice that marks this as some season other than winter. It could have been taken in the spring or autumn, and that ambiguity is a lot like gender androgyny. Seasonally, it could be any time of the year and it could even be winter, but it's up to the viewer to sense the warmth and determine when the shot was taken. THAT is where this photo is at its most successful, and at its most intriguing. There's a sense of mystery in it. Well done! I think you're onto something (from this and your post before it) and whatever it is, keep it up...it's engaging.

The shot definitely has the feel of a sultry summer night. A bit of a time warp feel to it as well. I like it. By the way, I think you guys have been colder then we are......Hey what's up with that??
