Description

It's hard to really see what's happened in this foto. This is the way back from my walk at the beach. The ocean is to the right. On the left is what used to be pasture land, until Mother Nature started taking it back. The winter storms create monster surf (25' or more, and I am STILL trying to get THAT shot!!) and last year, breached the dunes. What used to be lush grass and grazing is now sand and more beach. You can't fool Mother Nature!!

wow marilyn, a very complex shot, not only for the meeting of land & water (& that bright crest near the top, which is powerful!), but because of the hazy land in the background--a whole other world back there. And the quality of the water and the stuff sticking out of it. A slate blue capture, with bright peaks, and confluences (a real marilyn quality), and almost an abstract, it's so rich. Wonderful mysterious shot. And one really does get a sense of the power of nature behind it...love the shot.

Oh yeah - and I am afraid the storms are going to get worse and Mother nature are going to get more angry and take more back!!! Wonderful moody work my friend! :)

A scene of relentlessness. Man may rearrange things temporarily but when it comes to the ocean...not for long. Lots of people on the east coast have built multimillion dollar homes on "beachfront" property that at any time could return to the sea just like your scene above. You've taken us here before...the fence to keep the cattle in...the old pole barn. I feel right at home here and am glad for your update. Moody...but nice.

I love the misty air above it all. As far as the new beach, it's all nature, and one must respect that!

In the Uk we are going for more 'managed retreat'. And yet folk still want to build on the waters edge or on flood plains.. more fool them.

Beautiful image! Excellent detail and color! Wonderful motion which illustrates your narrative. Nova ran an episode once, called "Goodbye Louisiana", all about the huge parts of the state which may relatively soon become part of the Gulf. My mom lives in Lake Charles, 30 miles from the shore. Her property may be shore line property at some point.

What I really like about this shot is the fact that it's so raw. On a level there's a part of me that's really tempted to put some science fictional element into it, because it IS otherworldly. This could be some slightly chilly Nemaean planet, or it could be the coastline of Ükür without big, rusting machines turning the sand red. It's an amazing shot in that it graphically shows that Nature is constantly in flux, that grassland becomes beach, or at least sandy, and that only the rocks live forever, at least in Human reckoning. Wonderful commentary on the nature of change and the changeability of nature. Another stunning piece of work!
