Une tentation surrÃ©aliste... A surrealist test... Les épines des cactus et des ajoncs sont des feuilles modifiées. Leur adaptation au milieu aride est remarquable. Leur structure interne est partiellement creuse. Ainsi, les épines de cactus peuvent être à la fois rigides et légères. Le vide contenu dans les épines permet d'une part de protéger la plante contre la chaleur car les rayons du soleil ne chauffent pas les épines autant qu'ils le feraient pour une structure homogène et d'autre part de faire pénétrer l'eau de pluie ou de condensation pour ainsi limiter les pertes hydriques. Spines are present on many plants and used for organ protection against herbivores. The cactus thorns and gorse are modified leaves. Their adaptation to arid conditions is remarkable. Their internal structure is partially hollow. Thus, the spines of cacti can be both rigid and light. The void content in spines allows one hand to protect the plant against heat because the sun does not heat the thorns as they would for a homogeneous structure and the other to enter the water rain or condensation and reduce water loss.

mmmmm .. perhaps cactus spines .. but I think it is a battle between a virus and a bacterium. The virus has gotten inside the bacteria's body and has impaled it, you can see it's sharp spines and fangs piercing the "sking" of the bacteria .. Ah, well, perhaps it is spines .. Such a magnificent image!
