Description

This is the trail that starts in yesterday’s posting. The deeper you hike down the Wall Street trail, the less light you have to see where you are going. At one point there is a “level” area and that is where this posting was taken. I stood there and looked up and the Douglas firs, in the photo, must have been over 100 feet (33 meters) tall. I assume that seeds must have blown into this slot type canyon but where did the sun light and water come from, to nurture those seeds into these size trees? These trees grew on and into sandstone. Imagine the volume of water that carved this trail and the speed that it had to travel, for a quarter mile with an 800 foot drop. It must have looked like rapids or even a waterfall. I left the young hiker in the photo for perspective. Keep in mind that this is just a trail into Bryce Canyon and not the canyon itself. Some information from Wikipedia and National Park Service materials. Scanned from a photo taken in 1996. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments. Dana

I have come upon a few places in nature that stopped me in my tracks...that made me forget about moving on...forget that I am exploring and not just squatting. This would be one of those places. Where wood and rock meet - not with the purpose of impressing anyone or anything but doing it anyway. I could sit here and enjoy what I see of hours and hours and come away content.
