Description

Bryce6.1/DazStudio/Photoshop/Photoscape The forest floor on Primevia.Among the various plants along the edge of a riverbed,a large Primevian predator moves slowly closer to it's prey...a waterhog. The methodical stalking pays off,as the large lizard-like creature uses whatever cover it can to allow it to get within striking range. When there is no more cover to be had,it lowers itself and creeps closer, then it bursts up and forwards at a surprising speed for something it's size. The hog turns, confident it has left ample distance between it and nearby cover. But there is a surprise in store for it!A long, sticky tongue thrusts out from the hunter's mouth, grabbing the prey and halting it's escape as the hunter lunges in for the kill. Hunter is the Scritt, waterhog the Catoblepas...both from Daz3D and posed in DazStudio. The Scritt's textures are all customized Bryce materials. The tongue is a lattice added to the model in Bryce.Fanleaf palms and Royal Ferns are part of the Trees For The Forest set, also from Daz.A jungle photo fromCGTextures was applied to a 2D plane and added as the background. The light and atmo are custom, the sunlight was turned off and a radial light with moderate falloff replaced it,allowing me to match the light to the background photo. An elongated cone rendered in Lit Rays preset creates the sun's rays falling on the scene.Another lattice in the foreground creates the tree roots the pig is foraging beside.Ground texture is a preset mud combined with a mossy ground tiled photo. All other foliage is from Bryce. In Photoshop I blurred the Catoblepas using the polygon tool to select it.The tongue of the Scritt was duplicated,a plastic wrap filter applied, and blurred.Drool was painted on the mouth and tongue, and various flying insects painted on another layer and blurred to create movement.Sig was added, and image flattened. In Photoscape I added various bloom effects and a level adjustment. Thanks for viewing, and any comments you wish to leave!

Excellent composition! I see that you're getting away from the pure Bryce render and adding lots of effects. it really captures the speed of the strike. Nicely done, even the drool!
