Description

Mammoth Hot Springs - (Yellowstone, Limestone, Brimstone...) The vegetation can't make it in this superheated, mineral saturated ground. The limestone perking to the surface causes the white build up which is deposited as it trickles down the hillside. I thought it was rather eerie looking. I tweaked it in photoshop to bring out the contrasts. Now, that tall tree in the middle, with the small trees flanking it, reminds me of a scene right from Golgatha... But then, this is brimstone country. :-) Thanks for stopping in. Blessings~ Jodie

Ahhh at first glance I thought it was snow on the ground. Very well seen and captured. :)

Raw and rugged. How about a scene captured after one of the many brush and wildfires we experience here in Southern California every year? That would be appropriate....right, Jodes? In any event, a masterful job of stark contrast, desolation and silhouetting in this shot, J!

I love the contrasts, it looks like a painting. Just beautiful! Are those geysers in the background?

a shot of haunting contrasts, and stark ones too, because of the stark white land & stark blacks of the trees. As always, your shadows are both naturalistic and musical, and the texture of the spill from the trees to the front--and it is a spill--are very expressive (and true to the area too). Including the grayer band at bottom is, I assume, basic photographic instinct, as it makes "3"s of foreground, the tree section, and the sky. But there's more than that...the sky is marked by ghostly geysers (I assume they're geysers) and undulating heavy clouds. But above all, your trees--the 'stars' of your capture--do look like Golgotha, they really do: I didn't think about it until I read you, but they felt bleak and "ultimate" as soon as I saw them. I mean, there are three & they're stark, and the middle one is highest like in Golgotha. I've been studying trees in my camera & in postwork, and I'm still learning their language photographically--it's very different from the pen or brush or pencil! Yet you did these with rightness & natural eloquence, and I imagine you saw it the minute you took the shot. Another beautiful addition to this series, and thanks so much for coming to my gallery...you graced it with wonderful feelings & insights, and I much appreciate it. Nice to see you here, if even for a short while. Your work adds so much to this site.

Love the way the limestone deposits harden into such pretty textures. Dana
