Description

Scooby37 asked for a better closeup, so I thought I'd make a sequel, perhaps make it into a trilogy. For the CA800, I opted out of using the default textures, and make my own purely custom procedural shader in Carrara. I was inspired by the look and feel of the Terminators in T4: Salvation, where they were more oily, greased, worn, and unpolished in appearance. IMHO, units that have been out quite some time on the battlefield would nolonger have that clean and shiny chrome. Or perhaps, not all models got the chrome treatment. Would like to know what you think of the shader effect. My intention was to make it look dull and worn, no different than a a wrench in a mechanic's garage. Does it look realistic or convincing or what? Thanks for looking. Your comments and opinions are always appreciated. Enjoy the story below... Continued from The Chamber... Cody took a deep breath. He wasn't sure what to expect. He carefully inched his face around the corner. At first he saw the source of the orange flickering light - they weren't fire pits, but bowels of fire on pedestals placed along the wall. The second thing he saw, and almost too late, was the fire reflecting on metal - metal with two pairs of glowing killer red eyes. Frakk! Cody swore at himself, as he realized a little too late. He could've sworn one of the heads swiveled slightly in a visual sweep as he pulled himself back behind the wall. His pulse was pounding. He didn't know if it was a routine sweep or if it detected his presence. "What?" Cooper asked in a whisper. Cody could've flinched at Cooper asking out loud. He replied with a single hand signal - 8 fingers spread followed by 2 closed fist shakes. The signal for Metal, eight hundred series. Two of them. Cooper's eyes went wide for a moment. Her eyes met his for a heartbeat what seemed like eternity. She nodded solemnly. She knew they were in trouble. They could possibly dispatch one if they were lucky, but not two of them. Not with their limited firepower. They had to get out of there, to report back to HQ. Command would surely want to know about this. In a swift action, Cody armed, twisted around and threw the grenade around the corner. It was answered with several plasma bursts through the doorway. On que, the grenade exploded with a bright flash equaled by a chamber amplified thunderclap, and a whole lot of smoke. A heart beat. Then two. A wild continuous barrage of plasma hit the backside of the stone wall they hide behind deafening the sound of debris raining to the ground. The sound of rhythmic heavy footsteps echoed in the room, more plasma bursts followed. Cooper and Cody ran for it, hoisting each other up the waist high ledge. Cody lifted Cooper up first, which she then spun around on the ball of her heel, shotgun ready. Cody just barely hoisted himself up onto the ledge, as one of the plasma rifle barrels poked through the doorway. There was little cover save for the pillars, but it was the only chance they had. Cooper fired her Spas12 for all it was worth as the menacing oil tarnished endoskeleton stepped through the doorway. The slugs harmlessly ricocheted off the hardened metal chassis, the force of impacts being shrugged off with impunity. Cooper could've sworn she saw those red eyes glow with malevolence. "Run!" Cody shouted, hooking an arm around Coopers waist, as angry plasma filled the space they previously occupied. Close enough to feel the plasma's heat singe the hairs on the back of his neck. In a short sprint they reached the safety of the first pillar when Cooper gasped out in pain!

Thanks for the followup and the great narrative. I do like the tarnished terminator look. Very effective. Look forward to a trilogy at least :)

wow... very nice lighting again... an awesome pose.. but this military kind of scenario reminds me of a saying in the military (for no apparent reason :P) It is said in the military that, "If you're not the son of a general, it's not your fault. But if you're not the son-in-law of a general, then it is your fault." Happy trails! :)
