Description

The Divum-Moenia is prospecting in the asteroid fields of Lalande 21185. From the crew member Adir Lesovitch's personal diary: "We spent a good deal more time getting set up than any of the rest of us would have preferred. I think that Dimitian, perhaps shared some of our captain's fears, but both Lee and I spent a good deal of time trying to talk Alexander out of some of his precautions. Of course, we failed at that completely. So we strung lines around the asteroid with sensors at key intervals. We set up a huge tent with a nice big heat source to attract attention. Our own tents were moored nearby, and Alexander insisted they be close enough to look like it might all be one structure at a distance. Dimitian's programs sifted the sensors for anything moving against the background stars, or several other anomalies that might elevate our captain's fears. And we started digging. The fact that nothing bad seemed to be happening only made us grumble at the time wasted even more. But at least the machines were digging out some nice valuable ore at last, and soon enough we would be back and making him buy us drinks to make up for the time wasted on precautions. At least that what we told ourselves, anyway..." -------------- …And so the story continues, The ship is a model you've seen plenty of times from me. It's my own design, the ship and the asteroids were done in Bryce, the starscape and the postwork are all in Photoshop CS3.

Another great render! Looks very realistic - I can visualize this taking place at some point in the distant future! Awesome art!

I've been following this tale, but I'm commenting here first. This reminds me of the work of C.J. Cherryh, one of my favorite writers. She wrote a number of excellent novels concerning asteroid prospectors and the Company that essentially owned their lives. Your details of everyday life out in the deeps are amazing and the image that accompanies this part of the tale is top notch as is usual. I love the asteroid and the fact that it's actually tiny. Oh well...at least a guy or gal could stand on the surface and throw a baseball into orbit...that's something I'd love to do, since I've never thrown a baseball that could potentially achieve orbital velocity and quite simply STAY in orbit for a long time. Ah...but now I'm rambling. This is amazing work in both image and word and I'm looking forward to more as well as to catching up on commenting on what I'd already seen. Wonderful stuff!
