Description

If memory serves--which it frequently doesn't, these days--I believe this rather Gothic-looking building on the Corner of Clark And Some-Side-Street whose name presently eludes me once housed the Ivanhoe Theater. It is now home to the neighborhood franchise of a local liquor store chain. Who these people are and what they're doing remains a mystery. I prefer to think it's something interesting like, the meeting of international secret agents or possibly some kind of corporate espionage wherein Burger King learns the secret ingredient in White Castle hamburgers*, but it's probably something more akin to who just won American Idol. This photo was made in the Lakeview area of Chicago in the summer of 2007. * instant mashed potatoes

Okay Corey, who's got the more handsome avatar, you or Chip? The smart money calls it a draw:) Like the casualness of the two street cornerites. They certainly don't look in a hurry. And they aren't interested in charging across the street on the green. So it must be something nefarious or just plain summer fun. Like it:)

Blue shirt just said, "I wonder if there's any place nearby where we can get a drink?" White shirt is considering the question carefully. They're about to cross the street and walk for blocks, hoping to discover someplace that serves beverages.

Instant mashed potatoes??? LOL Tasty little things, aren't they?? So, I think they're talkin about why people cross the street. And why the little guy in the box never goes anywhere! I could be wrong.

This is a great picture Corey! Binnys...Ah...Binnys...you can get the good stuff there, Slivovice, Okocim, Pilsner Urquell, Russian Standard (vodka) as well as Dembrowka...Ziwiec...and other elixirs that make life...um...interesting. I love the light and shadows in this and the strangely out-of-place, Old Word architecture...it fits with alcohol sales, only there are no guys down in the cellar singing songs in Czech, Russian, or Polish...oh well! I can always pretend. I love the details in this. And the little bits of informational trivia. Did you also know that Burger King dips its french fries in milk before freezing them, that's why they're distinctly crunchy and oddly irregular on the outside. And now that you mention it...mashed potatoes. Yummy! Should we go for sliders tomorrow? Oh, and while I'm at it, I should at least say something smart and accurate about this picture. Especially since the composition appeals to me, along with the wonderful architectural details you've captured here. This is a really good piece of photographic art and I love your ruminations.

I think blue shirt has asked if his companion knows a fairly nearby hairdresser where he can get his blonde disaster reversed. That has been a really beautiful building! Such an interesting image.

I first noticed all the excellent stonework, and then the very bland door. Excellent detail and composition! Very entertaining narrative! I think they are saying: Blonde-Aliens? Really? Other- Yep, I saw the storekeeper remove his head one day. Blonde-But... I dated the daughter. Other-Yikes! Really? Um...You been OK since then? Blonde-I don't want to talk about it.
