Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

That sounds like so much fun. I am suitably jealous now!

OMG, THAT was a shock, opening this and seeing myself!! I remember this place, had a coffee and Kahlua and LOTS of more great talk!! Chip had the same thing; we both look a bit dazed!!

WOW! I remember this perfectly...well...almost perfectly, as I was obviously not paying attention to whether or not a camera was being pointed in my direction. I distinctly remember that coffee with Kalua and the really cool pattern the whipped cream on top made as it melted and streaked downward in neat lines! Marilyn and I both sat entranced, watching it happen and debating whether or not to photograph it...we decided to drink it instead. That was such an incredibly good day! I think the Renderosity Ninja Photographers need to meet again...SOON...especially since there are likely to be more members in the group as well. This is really nice! I love the "you are there" vibe of this, and the rather bored expression on that waiter's face. Great play between subtle colors as well, and I love Marilyn's meditative expression. This is really great work and a wonderful surprise, since I thought you were posting a completely different picture! Great work, as always!

And Corey...since I missed the first meeting...had to cancel my room reservation in the Westin because of a minor medical procedure...I'll sign on for the next gathering. Afterall, I want to meet all you guys:) Like the rakish tilt and anticipatory expressions of Marilyn and Chip. Well done.

The Artist Cafe This was such a cool day. I never wanted it to end. Next time I think it should last 2 or 3 days. We just won't converge on the city..... we'll take it over and dominate. The next meeting of the Great American Ninja Photographers shall be bigger and better then ever. Ok , let me get small again. Awesome shot btw.
