Published writer, neophyte artist, and always learning.
After working with Poser for the last 5 years, I've switched to Carrara. Even though I've had it for about 3 builds, the UI was too unfriendly and non-intuitive for me, until Poser 8 went whacky for me on my system. So I jumped in, read the forums and began to get back into deep learning mode.
Just scratching the surface, but having fun and trying new things. Lots of possibilities.

you did a lot with very little in this scene. so much is implied. the lighting is really great. it would be better if it were a little less uniform. some Christmases ago, i double checked my expectations about fires, and looked at my parent's living room with just the fireplace for lighting. i could see at least 3 different shadows. they didn't photograph well, though. and the light was mostly red, but the fire wasn't nearly as bright as this one. that's just a minor technical issue. as always, your poses are natural, your narrative clear, and your lighting is dramatic. i'm honestly surprised you don't have more views and comments. this is pure gold.

Except for the HDRI, all of the other lights have shadows applied. Perhaps my distance settings on the (point/fire)lights were a bit too modest, but I didn't want it illuminating the backdrop. Thanks to all for the comments and ratings. As far as cobaltdream's "i'm honestly surprised you don't have more views and comments. this is pure gold." Thanks, but you know the reason as well as I: it's not fantasy/scifi, and doesn't have naked people in it, so the views, hits are low. All of my "real world" images have low ratings unless I murder someone in them :) I thought about throwing a sasquatch in the background, but kept it simple. This is actually a slight re-creation of an old BSA uniform advertisement I bought off of ebay once. Just a nice touch of Americana. Thanks again for the comments.
