Description

I originally did a similiar scene back in 2006-07, shortly after I began working with Poser. I decided to update the scene, utilizing the newer tools and my gathered knowledge and experience. I used The Cloth Room for the barber drape this time, instead of a morphing blanket (and learned much in the process). I was al set to have a complete IDL render in Poser 8, but... I must not understand it correctly and it was under lit and had artefacts in it, so I changed up the lighting and used "Inverse Square falloff", new to P8. Except for fixing a few defects in the Cloth Room cloth, and adding the hair, little postwork was done. The story is one I read at a haircut story site, about a teenager with longish hair felt distanced from his father. He had fantasies about getting Dad's only haircut (one he was once forced into getting as a child, but rebeled against in his teens). One day, the boy asked his Dad to take him for the flat top, and the two rekindled their father-son bond (and Dad bought him a fedora and some new "old" eyeglasses). The 2 men are M3; the boy is using David.

love the update! the cut hair is very effective. i think the lighting works very well, but it looks like you're not gamma correcting and it's giving you a little over exposure. it's amazing how much detail you put into these images. i can't even imagine where you find all your props. great cloth room work; the folds look perfect to me. if the barber is wearing what i think he is, i once considered getting that top, and i'm impressed by what you've done with it. the floor looks rough for indoors, but the more i look at it, the more i feel it fits the scene. and i have to say, i've never known how to get depth blur to work as well as you have here. or did you do it by hand? either way, it's just the right balance between strong and subtle.

Thanks everyone. cobaltdream: the barber's top is from Poserworld (male nurse outfit). It's the same barbershop for the previous image, all cobbled together by me; the Daz Tavern, a sink from another set, the barber chair from WG Props (freebie) and retextured this time. The Cloth room took about a week to get right; I tried various capes and drapes, and ended up using the ODS super dynamic cape, but shortened it. Thanks to acadia's forum topic, I figured out how to make the cape stick around his neck. The render... kept crashing in P8, so I took it back to P7. Which took over 25 hours due to the reflection. It was really over blown, since I had it set up first for IBL in P8, then used the Inverse Square falloff. Being stubborn, I took it back to P8 and it finally rendered with Inverse Square and looked much better. The DOF is done in PS Elements. I haven't tried it in P8, but it used to take forever and I suck at trying to set the distance correctly, so I do it by hand.

Really cool scene. I had long hair as a teen. Finally cut it all off. Now I have a crew cut.

This reminds me of a Norman Rockwell picture. The hard work you put into this paid off, the picture is truly amazing!!! And the story...I love the story.
