Published writer, neophyte artist, and always learning.
After working with Poser for the last 5 years, I've switched to Carrara. Even though I've had it for about 3 builds, the UI was too unfriendly and non-intuitive for me, until Poser 8 went whacky for me on my system. So I jumped in, read the forums and began to get back into deep learning mode.
Just scratching the surface, but having fun and trying new things. Lots of possibilities.

Very nice job! I have yet to figure out the cloth room. :)

love the update! the cut hair is very effective. i think the lighting works very well, but it looks like you're not gamma correcting and it's giving you a little over exposure. it's amazing how much detail you put into these images. i can't even imagine where you find all your props. great cloth room work; the folds look perfect to me. if the barber is wearing what i think he is, i once considered getting that top, and i'm impressed by what you've done with it. the floor looks rough for indoors, but the more i look at it, the more i feel it fits the scene. and i have to say, i've never known how to get depth blur to work as well as you have here. or did you do it by hand? either way, it's just the right balance between strong and subtle.

Thanks everyone. cobaltdream: the barber's top is from Poserworld (male nurse outfit). It's the same barbershop for the previous image, all cobbled together by me; the Daz Tavern, a sink from another set, the barber chair from WG Props (freebie) and retextured this time. The Cloth room took about a week to get right; I tried various capes and drapes, and ended up using the ODS super dynamic cape, but shortened it. Thanks to acadia's forum topic, I figured out how to make the cape stick around his neck. The render... kept crashing in P8, so I took it back to P7. Which took over 25 hours due to the reflection. It was really over blown, since I had it set up first for IBL in P8, then used the Inverse Square falloff. Being stubborn, I took it back to P8 and it finally rendered with Inverse Square and looked much better. The DOF is done in PS Elements. I haven't tried it in P8, but it used to take forever and I suck at trying to set the distance correctly, so I do it by hand.

Really cool scene. I had long hair as a teen. Finally cut it all off. Now I have a crew cut.

This reminds me of a Norman Rockwell picture. The hard work you put into this paid off, the picture is truly amazing!!! And the story...I love the story.
