Description

Two mornings ago... ZOOM really helps for details. Hoar Frost occurs when ice crystals condense from fog when there is snow on the ground with the temperature just hovering at the freezing point. Shaped like rose thorns. Not colorful but neither was that morning:) Bill:) "Where's the Bathroom" thumb_2005096.jpg

I'll try to get this in before Tara does her thing. Super focus and ambiance in this cool capture, Bill! A zoom really does bring it to the fore. I'd hate to get those little itchy branches down the back of my shirt.

This is an instant favorite! At first I thought the frost fingers were thorns but then I noticed that they're frost fingers! At least that's what I call them. They're picked out so perfectly and well...ooooh, nice! I love winter photography for this reason; it's something that shows us more than gray, slushy snow; the kind that often hides the little deposits often left by dogs and then covered up until spring. I love the fact that this is the exact opposite of that and that it shows something pristine, evocative of winter's austere clarity, and that whole sense of winter silence as well.

Okay, here's Tara, doing her thing! :P (A little soft-shoe shuffle, perhaps?) I love Chip. He's the only person I know who would look at this and decide it's the exact opposite of frozen dog poo. (Okay, that's not EXACTLY what he said, but it's close.) This is spectacular! You've solved the problem of subject with this one beautifully. Wonderful image, dear one!

I seldom see hoar frost here but I remember it as a child. It was one of those magical sights to wake up to. This is equally as magical.

I've never seen it looking like this! It is extraordinary to see how long each crystal has become. I must have known once how hoarfrost happens, but I'd completely forgotten..no surprise!

Nice capture Bill, I see some areas that were only frosted on one side of the tree/bush? I couldn't figure out the why of that, but saw some areas like that too.
