Description

The largest starships in the Protectorate's stellar navy, like the battleships and carriers, are too big to be constructed at most standard shipyards. Instead, these capital ships are built at massive floating frames known as Cap Docks. The location of about half of the capdocks are a tightly-kept secret. They are stationary objects that cannot be moved. Most of them are near the core worlds, in Primus Sector. But there are a few in each sector. The reason for this is simple. A Cap Dock, at peak efficiency, and if some corners are cut, can build and launch a battleship in eight weeks, which is faster than the time it might take a ship from the core to reach the most outlying colonies and sectors. They can also quickly repair and refit capital ships, making it even more essential that they be strategically located throughout human space. This is actually a rework of some older space dock images I did in DOGA. I've always liked these in-the-dock scenes ever since the old star trek movies, so I had to update those older images I did in Carrara. I used alpha maps to give the ship the look that it is incomplete and under construction. Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

I kinda like the bit of asymmetry of the hexagonal rings comprising the dock. The lighting and overall composition is very good.
