Description

This is Hyde Park Sydney late at night shortly after a downpoor. Named after Londons Hyde Park, this lovely park is on the eastern side of the Sydney central business district and sits opposite St Marys Cathederal. The centrepiece of Hyde Park is the Archibald Fountain (I'll be posting a photo of this shortly). The fountain was designed by François Sicard and donated by J.F. Archibald in 1932 in honour of Australia's contribution to World War I in France. Also at the northern end are the Nagoya Gardens featuring a giant outdoor chess set and the entrance to the underground St. James railway station. During the day the park is filled with people having their lunch or just generally chilling out. By night the park is home to some wonderful wildlife and the occasional homeless person. While I was shooting this I had to fight off possums who wanted to get in on the action :)
