One more in the set of pics I'm doing. Now that I'm a little bit more aware of how to work the lights and shadows, I think i did pretty well on this one, but once again during the rendering so much detail was lost.

Another really good one. :-) And with the lights - what shadow kind do you use? Do you soften it? Do you do a software render? How many lights do you use? There is so many things that take influence on your render... Sometimes shadowmaps blur the textures, depending on how many lights you have set with a shadowmap. Also the use of many many lights can have that effect. I personally like raytraced lights and shadows the most but the render time with it is immense... the one I have uploaded today has taken almost 4 hours to render (without the hair! with hair it would have taken way longer... also the original work is way bigger than the uploaded version.)... nothing gets blurry though with it, so it is always worth it. Some people find the shadows too hard with it, but you can soften them in the settings or later with post work. It is all a matter of personal taste I guess.

I'm still a bit ignorant on DAZ, and Daz's website is really lacking in "Daz for dummies" materials. I usually set the main lights to have shadows, with a deep shadow map and shadows softened between 45 to 70 percent. Even without shadows turned on though I still lose a lot of detail, such as the rough texture of the walls are smudged over to look smooth now. If you know of any online materials that might offer an easy tutorial then let me know, thanks!

More light and less soft shadowmaps....and your very well composed scene will come clearly into view!
