Description

Good evening, friends! ALTHOUGH I SAILED TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES Sadness did no linger in my mind Although I sailed to foreign countries..... (Chorus after every verse) We sailed from Boston On a voyage to the Indies We came to an agreement with a skipper Of a handsome ship. Three days before Christmas Bad weather descended upon us The wind blew strongly with rain And stinging hailstones When the inch-thick ropes froze They became three inches in girth We lost the skin of our hands And our arms were tired of the struggle Five of the crew members were standing And seven were prone I spent three days and three nights At the wheel during the storm That is when the skipper said "Do not yield, stout - hearted lads, When you reach port Your dram will be certain" My mother is dejected Because she does not expect me to return...... This is a poem of an old sailor`s song and another tribute to the old scottish gaelic language. This song is once more performed by the very talented gaelic singer JULIE FOWLIS and a bunch of comrades at the "Transatlantic Sessions 4" from November last year. The houseband of the BBC series is better then ever and all male singers at the session had to sing and form a sailor`s choir. The title of the song in its origin is "GED A SHEOL MI AIR M`AINEOL" that means nothing then "ALTHOUGH I SAILED TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES..." In modern times we will call this a travelogue.... I hope you like this musical performance. LISTEN TO JULIE SINGING HER TRAVELOGUE HERE (Copyright: devonfolk) Pic was taken at New Berwick at 7th August 2009 at boat tour to the gannet`s colony of Bass Rock. WE added a B/W photo style to create a more old fashioned atmosphere more suitable to the old sailor`s song. I hope you enjoy the pic and maybe the music, too. Your comments are always welcome, in every direction. Thanks for your comments for my older pics and a special THANKS for taking my last pic as your favorite.... Bye till tomorrow. Enjoy the weekend!
