Description

Decided to upload some photos in between my last render and my next. Thought some out there might enjoy this one taken by me in the spring of 2008. A mother robin nested in the holly bush right at the edge of our driveway about 3 1/2 feet off the ground. Here the chicks when they were very young and still a bit homely. Tomorrow I'll upload a photo of them when they are nearly ready to fledge.

Too cool, Mike! In 2008, we also had a robin's nest on top of the power meter on the back of the house. It was about 18 inches from the back door, and every time I went out the back door, I'd get dive-bombed! Needless to say, after the little ones left the nest, it was removed :-D

Nice capture! Brings back memories of when I was younger, living at home, just out of school. Animals always seemed to take to my Mom, and a robin (I think it was a robin, been a long time now so could even have been jay or some other bird) had built a nest in one of the taller bushes outside the house. Her chicks kept falling out and the silly bird would get mom to put them back in the nest. I had always heard if you handle a small bird like that the mother bird usually would no have anything more to do with it. That may or may not be true, but to have the mama bird actually come to the window and raise such a squawk to get my Mom's attention so she would go out and rescue the little thing, I still shake my head in disbelief. But even more amazing I think is we had all sorts of animals, since we lived in the country, cats, dogs, ducks, etc., not to mention the wild creatures that took up in the yard, and Mom somehow had them all get along. Never once did, say a cat get a squirrel or bird in the yard, or a dog go after a cat, etc. It was understood, how I do not know, that no hunting was allowed in the yard. They could go into the nearby woods and all was fair game, but not around the house.

An excellent pic. Love the American use of the word 'homely'! Here in Britain in means comfy, warm.

Oh, I remember how much we both enjoyed this robin's nest, peeking each day to see how they were doing, and watching the parents busily feeding them. i hope the come back this year!!!
