Description

This is a close up of my last photo that I had made into a poster, and I was told that it is actually a moth and not a butterfly so like I had said to Oline in my previous post, I guess you never stop learning.. Now if I only knew the name of this moth, I did try to look it up, but I wasn't very successful, all I know is they are very pretty and lovely to watch and photograph, so thanks for all of your comments. If anyone knows the name, or a good site where I could look it up I would appreciate it. We woke up to a nice blanket of snow here, in fact our power had gone out for a while last night, so we are just enjoying a cozy weekend here at home, I wish you all a nice and cozy weekend in your part of the world. thumb_2011184.jpg

I only knew the German name for it...it's translated into something like 'Peacock eyes', so the American word 'Buckeye' somehow makes sense, well near enough ! Nice capture, Cheers BB

A beautiful closeup. I'm sorry to hear that your pictures weren't chosen but as you say there is always next year. I can never tell what the judges are thinking in a lot of these things, and often the best work isn't chosen.

I wish we had such insects here, though my daughter vehmently dissagrees with me (scared to death of them). Great shot, really shows the markings well. Keep plugging away and never get discouraged

Oh, by gee by golly, that is a moth! A pretty one, with lovely patterns, but still a moth. I never even noticed the difference when I made my comment on the original posting. In any event, a great POV and focus in this stellar capture, Lynell. And nice try on your foto entries. Just keep at it, yours will be selected eventually.

Very lovely and very well done. I think in some cases, moths are more beautiful than butterflies and you definitely found a beauty!

These are pretty butterflies...I have to agree you on this one And on my favorite flower too........the zinnia At the greenhouse where I get my flowers every summer I can hear the lady's kids that sells the flower say "Hey Mom,its the Zinnia Lady" Cracks me up when I hear that....But now I have graduated to Susan the Zinnia Lady roflol.... I love those real small small silver butterflies........no bigger than your finger...do you know which ones I am talking about..see them all the time but they are way to fast to get an image of...........least for me..I might of had one in that earlier post How Many Can You Count? We got 8 inches of snow............I got up at 3am started here then.....and haven't been back to bed yet.....Getting really sleepy..so me thinks bed is a calling me............Here it is 12 midnight and hubby has left out for the paper route..I begged him to wait until morning...I know he will slide and go off the road...I made him promise me if the roads looked really bad to turn around and come back home.........I will worry myself sick...... So sorry you didn't get in the showing sis....I know how much that meant to you.........but glad Michael got one in...wonder how he did????????Some parts of Tenn got pounded with the snow didn't it?? This is our first bad one since '94....If I get to feeling better may try to get out and find me some good old snow and ice pic's...vomited for 3days the other day..finally at 3am hubby took me to ER...yeah same ole pain shot but welcomed the Phenegran shot...was so sick I was crying...Orderly got me a soft drink my favorite Ski:) and kept it down....got out the doors into the car and pulling out and blurpp blurepp up she came.....got half way home tried to get the pan missed it and it landed all in my lap YUCK..thank heaven's I am feeling better...thought I was going to be dehydrated if I kept it up...ate some soup today and kept that down.........so may try some more soup tomorrow....beats nothing... Love the image sis....glad you got the name of the butterfly...someone most always knows the name of everything at least nature wise around this community I think....and that is a good thing:) I wish someone would know the name of that silver one....really tiny and delicate...hs some blue in it and gold.........Never would of thought that butterlfy would be a buckeye...I have a real buckeye under my matress...my dad told me to keep one there and you would always have some money.....well the buckeye is there...and haven't ran out of money yet....but sure close LOL You take care...and Yes I will try and stay warm this weekend.......... Hugs Your Ky sis Susan~

This is a magical shot. Very lovely. Is the gallery in Galveston a new one? I'm guessing it is probably near or on The Strand. But then, since Ike, probably there are others opening up along the Seawall.

Well, Lynell, I am ashamed to live in Texas if you didn't win anything with your superb photos! This is a fine example!

oh lynell, thanks so much for your sweet words of encouragement and congratulations - they mean the world to me! after touring the show and meeting the judge at the opening yesterday (and yes, i could feel you accompanying me there in spirit!), i can say with certainty that your work holds its own against or is flat out better than the photos that juried in - the obviously seashore-slanted and galveston-elitist judge apparently couldn't wrap her brain around your beautiful smoky mountain vistas... that's no reflection on your amazing and creative talent hon, it's a sad comment on her narrowmindedness. (had she known i don't live on the island she probably wouldn't have let me in either, lol!) the many earnest kudos you routinely receive from lay photographer and professional alike here on rr should be your true yardstick - and i fervently hope you'll keep submitting your work - i just know it WILL be recognized! xo ps: gorgeous macro, hon! add a li'l sand and surf in the background, mebbe an offshore oil platform or two, and it'd have made it past the judge fer sure! :p
