Description
But definitely not of the old apple tree.
The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III military transport, captured back on 10/29/07, at the 6th Annual Wings Wheels Rotors & Expo, held at the beautiful Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) in beautiful Los Alamitos, California.
Better viewed full size.
I really like this shot of visitors to this event having found protective shelter from the hot late October sun under the wing and engines of this goliath aircraft, reminiscent of a mother hen or swan providing cover for its little offspring.
Pictured are reversible Pratt & Whitney F117-PW-100 turbofan engines, generating 40,400 pounds of thrust each.
The commercial version of the engine, designated the PW2000, is used on the Boeing 757 and Ilyushin 11-16M transports.
Adieu, and thankx for the visit.

Ha - I like this! By the lack of shade giving trees - this is definitely the next best thing! Great image showing the "human" side of the airshow Harry! Well done! :)

Mammoth aircraft and perfect POV of these mighty engines. Dana

You can really see how immense these are here. Personally, I'd rather sit under an apple tree, though. Nice shot!

Yes, the people sheltering under the wing look so tiny next to the massive aircraft; nice texture on this one!

What a monster! Awesome capture Harry, the composition is perfect!!!

Stunning shot that shows the massive size of these craft! The RAF has leased several of them now and plans to take even more on.... Until their own Transport craft comes on line... (if!...Standing Joke! Still waiting for the Nimrod replacement and a new tanker!...So you get the picture!) Outstanding Harry! Rob.

Excellent shot! Your title made me think of another shade giving tree, from a Helen Reddy song "Long Hard Climb"(written by Maria Muldaur). "Woah, baby, come and lay by me. In the cool, cool shade of that old oak tree." I love the composition of this and the humor!

Terrific shot! I like your description 'reminiscent of a mother hen or swan providing cover for its little offspring'. It does have that feel to it, odd that one would think of a plane that way, so thank you for pointing that out, it gives a much softer feel to the huge plane!
