Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

Oh man ... food poisoning is the worst! I'm glad you're on the mend. The tilt in this really adds to the shot. Nicely done!

Full tilt boogie---hope you're ALL better soon!!

Sounds like you ate someone's biology experiment...those things are the worst, even if they are...um...interesting under the right circumstances. As for this shot, I was standing there when you took it and WOW...it looks so much more intense here. It has a cinematic quality to it that I love, and the tilt reminds me of David Lynch for some odd reason. I have no idea why, but that's okay...there are lots of things that escape my ability to apply reason to them. I love night shots and this is one I would gladly have taken. I didn't take it, but at least I get the chance to see it. As for food poisoning...I'm glad that's over. Oh and a piece of advice...don't go wandering into writer's fog until AFTER you've eaten something that's been in the refrigerator for a bit or checked the sell-by date. I like this shot though...and well...I'm very familiar with that place. The light is fantastic, the angle is trippy.

I just came from Chip's night shot to this one and my, my, my what a wealth of riches I am being served tonight! Yes, the first thing I noticed was the tilt, but right on its heals, forcing its way into my attention, was that light! It stands high and radiates light down onto the image! I'll get back to that light. The strong line of the tilt and those playful balls of light on the left, draw the eye down into the picture, even as the mind is aware of the wide expanse of pavement at the front of the image. This combination of being drawn down while remaining somewhat fixed is a heady experience, sort of like you are everywhere at once. Now back to the light. There is another tilt that I had fun with here. It is the tilt of my laptop screen. Playing with the amount of light is an amusing pass-time, which usually leaves me with one favorite spot. Not so this image. Each level of tilt of the screen had it own particular charm. Tilted forward and the yellow light rays blazed with such magnitude that anyone foolish enough to be out (a photographer, say) would be instantly vaporized to a small heap of dust. Push back a bit and yellow and orange halos encircle the light and gentler rays shine down on a building that has reasserted it prominence. Further still, and a dark dead building lines an angry red street, under a dying sun. Cool image and a fav! You have my heartfelt sympathy with your bout of food poisoning. All food poisonings are nasty, but one that lasts for several days, is singularly nasty. I'm glad your better.

This reminds me of the Old Miners Hut @ Oprey Land years ago. Everything was out of kilter with water pouring up hill and tables with such a slant things should have fallen off. I got so dizzy and disoriented that I had to be led through. This shot makes me feel the same way. Great shot Corey. Makes you take another look. Glad you are feeling better. Food poisoning is really nasty.

Chip and Lucinda have said all... A super image, Corey! and as for the fridge, I find if you cook stuff it kills 99% of bugs if you get it up to boiling point! My Grandma kept a stockpot going for a week at a time by boiling it daily, and we had no fridge and no food-poisoning!
