A work in progress! Hi! My name is Melinda. I am happily married to the love of my life and we have a daughter who is in college. I live in Southern California and I am an amateur photographer. My husband bought me my Kodak P880 for Christmas in 2006. I looked at it and thought I'd never figure it out! I've only taken regular every day snapshots and never looked through the lens in a "creative" way. Then in March 2007 someone introduced me to Renderosity.  In May, I became brave and decided to upload my first photo... I haven't been able to put my camera down since! LOL. I still have a lot to learn, but I sure am having fun doing it. I have come a long way though. This time last year, I couldn't even put a photo on the computer! Now I have started to research DSLR cameras ... Who knows what the future brings! Update: I now have that DSLR :) Was the best Christmas (2008) gift!   I did the research and picked it out and Santa put it under the tree. It's a Canon Rebel Xsi .

I have a new DSLR, the Canon 7OD. A gift from my husband for Mother's Day. So much to explore!

Personally, I think the mountain was nicer as it was, and he likely would have been appalled.

So what is that thing outlined in white? Is it going to be the Playboy Bunny? Unfortunately money seems to rule everything. I'm disappointed they would have the nerve to charge anything when it is not finished and when the site is crawling with workers and equipment. One mountain was already too much, and bigger is seldom better, in my opinion. You did a good job to get any photo under those conditions, so thanks for posting it even though it does make me angry.

adding a playboy bunny would make it more intresting indeed, probably gonna be a horse as they obviously took a toy indian as model. Was this initiated by indians? or srewd bussiness men? and how much dollars did they charge? thx for sharing this great foto.

They have been working on this for about 30 years or so. I was stationed in Rapid City 80-84. The Lakota did not initiate it, it was planned by the same person who did Rushmore. Now his family is continuing the work. It's not Crazy Horse anyway as there are no photos/portraits of him, no one knows what he looks like. Thanks Melinda, your opinion is pretty much on the money.

I agree with you! Nice shot you took though through the glass.

Ugh, big Chief Crazy Horse unhappy with defacing of this sacred plot of land. And white man want too much wampum to see monument. Be on warpath soon for this. Actually, this looks pretty good considering the weather conditions, Melinda, and the fact it was snapped through glass.

Remarkable work!

This is a great shot and it underscores one of the more weird elements of life in the USA. At least it's a Native face being carved, but still...it's weird that only in America would we carve mountains in this way...it's not like Petra or some such spot where mountain carvings serve a purpose OTHER than cultural vanity...but I can go on and on and on about that, ad nauseum, and rather than do that (or spell out my anti-souvenir manifesto) I'll just stick to commenting on a great photograph. You apparently took it under less-than-ideal circumstances, but your efforts paid off and I love the details, including the diminutive workmen off in the distance. This is a great piece of art.

I sugest its worth paying to see the history right infront of your eyes. Have you ever imagined of waching the Pyramids and Phynix of Egypt being built.
