Description

Chambéry has been the historical capital of the Savoy region since the 13th century. The Fontaine des Eléphants (Elephants Fountain) is surely the most famous landmark in Chambéry. It was built in 1838 to honour Benoit de Boigne's feats when he was in India. This statue, which represents the forelimbs of four elephants truncated in a column in the shape of the savoyan (savoyarde) cross was first hooted by the inhabitants who, annoyed to see elephants in their city, in a typical Gallic fashion nicknamed the statue 'les quatre sans culs',(the four without arse(s). It appears that now, these 'alien' animals have been accepted. In the foreground there is the ad of a movie showing a comic European view of the Americans: Planet 51 : Alien malgré lui! (Alien despite himself). Planet 51 is a Spanish animated film directed by Jorge Blanco. It was released in 2009, by Sony Pictures Worldwide. Some critics acknowledged the film as an E.T. in reverse.
