Great light, here, Bill. Really gives that gun some presence, but guess that's the idea!!

Awsome image. We still have some bunkers (or we did??) along the sea. We used to play in them as children, not really realising what they were!!!!!

I recognise this, a dissapearing carriage, counter balanced gun mount. Why do I know that ?....long story.Great capture Bill, so much detail even in silhouette. This is a keeper.

Nice shot, Bill! I like the way you've silhouetted that big piece. That would definitely tend to get one's attention downrange. I've got a shot - somewhere - of one of the three 'Atomic Annies' that is on display across the highway from Ft. Riley - but it's not as cool a shot as this one!

This is outstanding. I love the functional grace of heavy artillery and well, this has strangely "sexy" lines and curves to it. The light/dark contrast is perfectly balanced and the POV is stunning. You give a great sense of scale and place, despite the tight focus. That's quite a hard trick to pull off. At times when I look at stuff like this, I can see where George Lucas stole--um, I mean received inspiration from--80% of what pops up in the Star Wars universe. Naturally I'd glom onto that. This is fantastic work. Quite evocative.

Disappearing coastal artillery. Didn't know any pieces were still left. Nice capture.

Coastal artillery would make some interesting 3D models for a number of applications. The gun here is one of the "diappearing" type. Once firedm, it would recoil to the rear and down so that it could be reloaded without the crew being in line of sight. Unfortunately, these guns were in line of sight of aircraft who either bombed them directly or adjusted the fire of guns and mortars with a higher angle of plunging fires. This type were on Corregidor and Japanese guns on the Bataan Peninsula had the US guns zeroed in. There was a very complex system of forts using this type of gun on Hawai'i in 1941, but the current runway for Honolulu airport runs right over some of the older positions.

A fine POV silhouette, Bill. I love disappearing coastal guns! If memory serves, the Fort Casey battery was ready to shoot at a Japanese sub sighted in 1942, but the command to "Open fire!" never came.

Excellent POV, clarity and backlighting to silhouette the big boomer, Bill. I presume, before the Battle of Midway, that they expected the entire Japanese fleet to come over the horizon.
