Description
Okay, time for me to play the show off again with my baking skills. And, just in time for Valentine's Day...a little something in keeping with 'heart's day'. A Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting.
Not nearly as labor intensive as my Lemon Poppy Seed cake, but enjoyable none the less.
This isn't the best decorating job I've done, but it was kind of a rush to get it done, so the accent work didn't come out as clean as I would have liked and the sugar crystals got a bit out of line with my little cutout stencil. But not too bad with someone who has no formal decorating training other than what I've watched on Food Network.
The most important part was it TASTED good! *grin*
It's been YEARS since I made a Red Velvet cake and I have to say it's probably the only pastry I know of that can turn the simple act of mixing up batter, if you mess up just a little bit, into something like a murder scene worthy of CSI with all the red!

I've hit a bit of a mental block with the next few images of the Clerin series to move the story along. Once I get over my image-block (as opposed to writters block *grin*), I'll get back to the series. I know what I want to do, it's just a matter of getting it the way I want it to look right now. Well, that and working on a side project that's been nagging at me since November.

Rush or not I think you did a wonderful job on this cake and decorating it Stacey. It really does look like you devoted a lot of time to it and it looks really tasty. Hope you get by that mental block soon so you can share more of your art :)

i totally agree with mike do something else and in a couple it will hit you and you go along.thats what happens to me i prepare a scene and leave it to rot hehehe.and reopen the following day or later.

Well that's what's great about doing what I do .. no story line to follow, hence no problem when the Muse decides to take a hike at a crucial juncture. I just go back and rummage in the good old files and dig out something to post. If you got a story line, you're hit with a double whammy, writer's block AND artistic block!! In the meantime, I have to go and get some paper towels. I've been drooling on my keyboard because I cannot grab a slice of that yummy scrumptious delish cake!!! GRRRRRRRR.

Red velver cake is some much fun to make, fun to eat too. One of these days I'll make a blue velvet cake because I will have used up all the red coloring.
