Description

What I like about living in a large city is that there are so many people and so much sheer real estate that--generally speaking--there's almost always something to make a picture of. Frequently, when you're simply going about your everyday life. I made this picture last night, coming home from a friend's house; I'd gotten off of the Howard Red Line elevated train and was waiting under the tracks to catch the #81 Lawrence Ave. bus. It was cold. I was bored. I had a camera... This picture was made in the Uptown area of Chicago on February 11, 2010

One of your great city night shots, Corey--full of all that implies. People, lights, cars, and things probably best not seen--great shot!!

WOW! I saw this on your camera and it looks better bigger. In this case, more is better! What really grabs me about this image is the guy on the right...he looks as if he's wearing a Starfleet uniform from whatever stardate the USS Voyager got zapped over to the other side of the galaxy by an alien who had the bad taste to die before he could zap them back. Anyway, their uniforms were black with colored shoulders and this guy looks like he either works in Engineering or Security. Great shot and I love the light shining through the ties above. Hey...did you notice how much Howard Street has changed? It isn't that scary any more!

LOL @ Chip (and at myself!) I thought the guy on the right was perhaps an engineer. Must be a Vulcan or something, with that hat down around his ears. First thing that crossed my mind. :P This is a great image! I loved walking under the El, and this brings back wonderful memories!

It's interesting that Chip mentions it not looking scary..my first thought was that it looked quite non-threatening there. Lots going on here, even though it's only a bus stop!

Not that I would wish you to be frequently cold and bored, but this is a great result! Whether the guy on the right is a lost member of the Enterprise or not, he is perfectly color coded for this image. Brown and yellow, matching the brown and yellow of the elevated platform. I like the parallel lines that turn visually into a grid and also the contrast between the standing figures and the moving car. Wonderful shadows, light and color. Strong yellow to the left, whiter color to the right and bits of reflected red and blue. Excellent energy in this nighttime shot!

I like this shot. It has colors, light, people and lots of interesting details. And I like the motion trails of the cars.
