The Mariposa Grove, near Yosemite's South Entrance, contains about 500 mature giant sequoias. Giant sequoias are perhaps the largest and oldest living things on Earth and may exceed 3,000 years in age.

I have loved trees since I was a kid. My favorite shaped trees have lots of gnarled branches and look a bit eerie in their bare winter state. But these trees have another kind of magic. I have been among them and felt the weight of their presence and the long passage of time. Your image captures this perfectly with the heavy shadows, the tall straight trunk and the completely seen trees in the distance. Excellent composition, light and capture!

These are truly awe-inspiring! I have the same feeling when among our pine-trees which are only toddlers in comparison!

Wonderful shot! Trees of all kinds are wonderful, but even the mighty oak would be humbled by these

This is beautiful. Have you ever read Ansel Adam's biography? He tells some fascinating stories of this area, and of course spent so much time there. Beautiful shot Mark, I hope you had a nice Valentines day. Happy Valentines Day

I have never seen them in real life so I can only imagine what a sight it must be. How wonderful to be in a forest with them, the smell must be wonderful. I'm very glad I will not love 3,000. Great shot, you've included so much to see (an almost full view, up close shot of the bark and a fallen tree). Good job.
