Description

Hello everyone and thanks for looking... Had some terrible news yesterday... my Mom and Dad's sailboat had her mooring line cut by the propeller of a careless passing motorboat. She floated loose and beached on a rocky shoreline a mile away from her protected anchorage. She is a total loss, and my folks are devastated, to say the least. They are retired school teachers, and they lived aboard her for almost five years before they retired. They sailed her to the islands, and eventually settled on the island of Vieques, to the east of Puerto Rico a couple years ago. They owned the 'Lady for ten years, and her loss is like losing a member of the family. I feel terrible for them and can only imagine how their feeling. Their very resourceful and resilient folks, though, and I'm sure that eventually they'll recover, but it's really tough on them right now. If anyone has any experience with rules and info on maritime salvage for something like this, I would be very grateful to hear about it. My folks are dealing with a salvage company and I'm worried they'll be taken advantage of by them and the insurance companies, on top of their devastating loss. Thanks again for the help of the Renderosity community, Tom Seaview123 PS -- With this to deal with I haven't been posting much lately, and probably not very 'Valentine's Day' related. Many thanks to everyone for their comments on my earlier posts.

I sympathize with you and your parents. I too grew up on a yacht when I was a boy in Florida, a ketch. I too felt a sense of loss when my father sold it to help finance his building of a motor yacht, for which I never quite developed the same feelings of attachment as I had had for the old sailboat. A ship is more than the sum aggregate of its parts, it is a living personality! dph

terrible story, it looks they were lucky in some way they were not physically involved and hurt, but the emotional loss is great i can understand that. My sympathy to them and you.

you must help your parents - as you are. But they lived a dream and are strong and will live a dream again. Because they are strong.

Hi Tom, what an image. The shipwreck. I hope, this beautiful ship is saved and rides again on the waves. All the best.
