A work in progress! Hi! My name is Melinda. I am happily married to the love of my life and we have a daughter who is in college. I live in Southern California and I am an amateur photographer. My husband bought me my Kodak P880 for Christmas in 2006. I looked at it and thought I'd never figure it out! I've only taken regular every day snapshots and never looked through the lens in a "creative" way. Then in March 2007 someone introduced me to Renderosity.  In May, I became brave and decided to upload my first photo... I haven't been able to put my camera down since! LOL. I still have a lot to learn, but I sure am having fun doing it. I have come a long way though. This time last year, I couldn't even put a photo on the computer! Now I have started to research DSLR cameras ... Who knows what the future brings! Update: I now have that DSLR :) Was the best Christmas (2008) gift!   I did the research and picked it out and Santa put it under the tree. It's a Canon Rebel Xsi .

I have a new DSLR, the Canon 7OD. A gift from my husband for Mother's Day. So much to explore!

I love bees. And in this picture, I particularly love the details and the overall focus. Bees are notoriously hard to photograph...they're as cooperative as their more aggressive yellowjacket cousins who always seem interested in moving just as you point a camera at them. OR they stand perfectly still, when it's too dark to capture them. Ah...insects...they're uncanny like that. What details on this though, I particularly find myself tempted to count pollen grains on this fuzzy little lady, and the focus, especially on her eye, is spot on. What really strikes me are the smaller details in this...it's rich in small details, from insect hairs to pollen grains, to odd little (unexpected) vascular openings in the plant itself...they're over on the right side, looking oddly like little straws packed together at the edge of the flower. It's all so rich and worth exploring. This is one of those really gorgeous pictures you have to actually sit with and look at for a long time as it reveals itself slowly, rather like a rich and compelling story. This is great work.

Utterly magnificent clarity and colors in this macro of the busy bee sucking up the pollen from the pistil, Melinda! I hardly have any insects, be they flying, walking, fuzzy or otherwise, to photograph around my area.
