And Affair with Lonliness
You see the light on
through my curtains
across the field
through the trees
the wind carries you
to the foundation
where you seep in
through the cracks
in the dry rot
oozing into my room
along the baseboard heater
where you devour the warmth
a chill that makes even death shiver
My back is toward you
as you lurk in the silence
in the shadows you make your way
through the thick brown carpet
stained with tears
behind the dresser
where pictures are placed
face down
as not to watch me cry
I sit here typing
knowing you are here with me
knowing when I turn the monitor off
and my fingers are silent
I will turn to face you
You will have made your way
along the frame
slithered between the sheets
made yourself comfortable
and chilled the covers
so that when I climb in with you
I will feel you wrap your icey arms
around me in an embrace
Ive come to know too well
Our nights together
always end the same
I fall asleep in your embrace
only to wake and find
you have left me once again
for when I close my eyes
I begin to dream
and in that dream
you do not exist
for in that dream
he holds me
and I am not alone
