Description

This is an adult wood stork. I do not know who was more shocked, the stock, when he stood up in the reeds, right next to me, or me when I turned around and there he was. They are about 40 inches (102cm) tall and with an impressive wing span of 61 inches (155cm). They do have black flight feathers on the wing tips and tail. The hunchback pose is normal and they are on the "almost" endangered list. Taken at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands, February 19th. What an amazing bird! I love the lines of his anatomy...he seems like he'd tip forward with that beak! I love the jarring contrast between his feathers and the reeds around him. This is great work.
