Description

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile - much has been happening on the personal front. I will post an update to my home page in a few days to fill you in... This is my first posted Carrara 7 render! Some time ago I realized my beloved Daz Studio would not be able to handle some of my future Aranée episodes - too many characters in upcoming scenes that will definitely stop DS3 in its tracks. So I purchased C7Pro during the holiday promotion. What I didn't know is how VERY different it is from DS! None of my V4 characters would import in from DS files - I had to rebuild them all from scratch. (M4 and all gen 3 figures pulled in just fine.) Also, the shader system is VERY different and not all props are well behaved, so I've had to spend a fair amount of time reshading all of the skin and clothing, tweaking props etc. It's been very time consuming. But it is worth it: This is an AWESOME platform, WELL worth learning. The only postwork on this image is to add the logo. Next: The Aranée C7 male cast of characters! Image © 2010 by Larry Hodge

It looks like it was a good move to me. I think these are some of the best, if not the best, versions of all these characters that you have done. There is an extra richness to all the colors. And the shadows are much better defined.

Wecome to Carrara! Great scene and composition. Be sure to try out the C8 Beta - some nice improvements in render speed (especially with the 64bit version).

It appears that you have a good handle on the operation of Carrara 7. Wonderful cast of characters and superb render. One of these days, I'll dig out Carrara and give it a spin. For the present, though, I'm still using Vue Esprit which imports Poser characters in a flawless fashion ... it even uses the Poser shaders which is a real benefit. Anyway, well done and I hope to see more of your story soon. :-)

A superb presentation of your characters here, and welcome to Carrara! A couple of suggestions to try with the lighting - try using soft shadows on your main distant light and set the radius to 100-200 ft. I know that sounds very large, but it's also very distant! Also turn down (or off) the "Ambient" lighting, and turn on skylighting (make sure you have a sky or background as a source for the skylighting). This makes an incredible difference to the realism - and also increases render times, but not too much if you are careful with the settings. But this is a great start! Just wait till you get into replicators!
