Description

When I went to the beach on Sunday, it was foggy and gray everywhere. This is NOT a b&w shot; it's the way it all looked. Even the water was gray, it simply blended into the sky.

I know what you mean about not b/w. I have taken some shots in foggy, stormy weather and I'm amazed at how stark those shots are. This is such a perfect shot of a moody day on a chilly, winter's beach.

your commenters all got it. It's beautiful and sweeping and yet intimate. And I fully understand that this isn't a b&w shot: Sometimes life truly looks this way; the light physically mutes all colors and leaves the earth a quiet bluish b&w. The middle "band" of your shot is a beautiful band of fog & low laying clouds, it gives a misty blanket to the whole. And the foreground of pathways across the sand is beautiful. They're backed by those mist-buried peaks, and of course the big rolling ocean---so dramatic and consuming compared to my lake. And your crop is perfect: A true call for a wide shot. It's beautiful Marilyn, and another example of your love for your beautiful ocean. I think Andrea's comment---what we often think of as "California" (ie, hot & sunny)---shows how most of us have no idea how vast California really is; it's like a continent; and that the area you live in is almost primal and pre-time in its raw powers, so very removed from the milieu of the southern portions...A beautiful capture filled with the reverence and yet utter familiarity you have for your home.
