Description

A closer look at the lighthouse. The structure was designed by lighthouse engineer Ralph Russell Tinkham and was completed in 1910 by the United States Lighthouse Service at a cost of $75,000, including the buildings and the land. Tomorrow I'll upload a photo of the keeper's houses. Thanks for looking :) My previous upload, "A Ground Level View". Have a Happy Friday! HUGS, ~Melinda~

Hi Melinda, your comment on my effort today prompted me to look at your gallery which I found to be full of very nice shots including this one.

Lighthouses seem to hold more than a beacon...they hold a fascination, history and magic that you have found in this shot.

Really a splendid shot of the beautifully architectured lighthouse contrasted against the sky, Melinda! $75,000 then, and I have a feeling it would cost a heck of a lot more to build today.

Lighthouses will always be fascinating...unless you live in the middle of a desert and have no need for them. But then a desert lighthouse would be even more fascinating, but that's only if it was used to guide ancient caravans across the desert...so you're not going to see many of those around, since human history didn't go in that desert lighthouse direction. Oh well...at least we have cool ones like this that keep boats from bumping into land rather than docking in the right place. And I really like the POV on this one...it seems mysterious and like something used for a slightly more "sacred" purpose than nautical navigation...and I think there's something oddly sacred about lighthouses anyway, something like whole generations of lighthouse keepers maintaining a tradition full of all sorts of significance! This is a wonderful shot that captures all of that! It's fantastic work!
