Description

Back to my Minnesota photos. I took about 200 photos here and I have so many I really like. I hope I don't bore you with the subject matter~ We had 4 days and 3 nights to explore the area. We were squeezing in as much as we could possibly see and do. On this particular day, we went to Gooseberry Falls and the shores of Lake Superior in that same area (I will have photos from there at some point too)and then made our way here to Split Rock Lighthouse. We started our visit here at the top, and decided to take the hike down to the lake shore. It was only a steep 171 steps down... ugh. lol. I took an abundance of photos on the way down, and from the lake shore. Then we hiked back up... luckily we found a nice, winding dirt trail to take us back and didn't have to go UP the stairs! Then I did a really crazy thing. I forgot to actually go IN the light house! What's with that? I still can't believe I didn't go up there. I am such a goofball sometimes. Now I am going to have to go back! It's only a 5 hour trip by plane, and then a 5 or 6 hour trip by car. Pfft. oh well. I did get some really nice photos though. And, I had a great time! My previous upload, "The Alien in the Middle". Thank you for your comments/faves and taking the time to look. It was very nice here in Southern California today, 65 F and only Partly Cloudy so I spent a little time stalking lady bugs with my macro lens. You may see some of those later :) I hope you are all having a wonderful week! HUGS, ~Melinda~ P.S. I am feeling loquacious tonight, sorry for the ramble :)

A ten to eleven hour trip just to return and go inside a lighthouse? Not for me, my dear...I'll pass on that. Anyway, nice quasi silhouetted shot of the structures and foreground against the overcast sky, Melinda! And, the weather has been nice over the past week or so here in So. Calif.

LOTS of steep steps are evil! Even when you're in perfect physical shape, climbing steep grade steps is just pure...well...evil. It's worse if you have to climb steep-inclined spiral steps to...oh say...a lighthouse's light? Or an old European cathedral, built before elevators were even a glimmer of a concept in some eccentric inventor's mind...I mean, back in those days, the wheel was still a new enough concept to still be considered "cool, modern, and oh-so-with it!" I really like the structure of this lighthouse. It's a bit like an ancient ziggurat, only a wee bit skinnier. I love its positioning too. This is a wonderful shot! Lighthouses are always such a fascinating glimpse into a day when human culture (in general) had such richness and jobs that actually seem to touch on traditions and stuff like that...and yeah, lighthouses are still in use now, but they're largely automated and not really human friendly, which is a shame. I love this shot and the way it gets me to thinking of all sorts of stories.

Love that place! Thanks for sharing. This place bring back fond memories for me. When I had a chance to visit the lighthouse lil over 3 years ago I almost didn't leave the car to go see it! I must have lost my mind. :)
