Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

This is a most satisfying pic even without your commentary, full of interest and with a spot-on compo. 'You can feel the queer vibe'...I love that idea! even though I live in the town with the second largest gay community in the South of England I haven't noticed such a thing as yet! I have bought a boxed set of all 37 Shakespeare plays by the BBC, and I may watch one a fortnight. I suffer from 'Denoument Deficiency Disorder'..that is, I fall asleeep just before all is revealed, or in the case of most of Williams plays, before they all make lengthy deaths. So, having just finished a sweater, I can't watch until I've set up some fresh knitting which will keep me awake!

busy down town at night, trains going by and cars and all the different lights...like the mood of it. As to the dvd and looking all episodes...I only have done that once and it even wasn't a show I have seen as a kid. It came as an recommendation from my sister, who is living in Australia. They get some British TV series over there, which we, although nearer by, don't get and she favored one especially, because of the humor. It's called "Monarch of the Glen" and tells stories about an old Scottish Laird in a derelict manor and his son, trying to keep the heritage together in our times. I had to watch them all, cause I fell for the scottish accent and the special humor of some very special characters.

I was visiting my sister a few months ago and she and her family REALLY wanted me to watch a movie with them. I fell asleep at the opening credits and woke as it ended. I may have the same "DDD" Andrea suffers from. But, I digress (nothing new)--this is a great shot and I'm starting to recognize Chicago pretty well. Saw a show (ok, HGTV, my secret vice) just the other night that was in your town and knew it right away, mostly because of scenes just like this--a road and the El. Super shot and another great story!!

I like this very much! Not only does it say "Chicago" loud and clear, but it's got great light, a nice amount of motion and action, and excellent composition. I've got some DVDs here too, courtesy of a friend who owns the boxed set, of Battlestar Galactica ... and you KNOW who thought I should watch THAT one! LOL! Well, I'm enjoying it immensely, but I'm only watching a couple of hours a week. There are all sorts of things that get in the way of me watching more. I'm glad you're enjoying the warm exotic scenery of Hawaii Five-O! It should keep you nice and toasty through what's left of the cold Chicago winter.

Great shot!

I missed commenting on this which is weird since I remember exactly when you posted this. Can you say brain fart...well. Now that it's passed, I'm seeing this now and I like it a lot. I didn't think that el-renovation thing would ever end...and now that it's ended, I actually like the result. This is a gorgeous shot and I love the sleek, urban feel of it. Night shots are so much fun and this one is as much fun to look at. Great stuff.
