Description

When I saw this image I finally realized where I was when I took the two previous pictures. They were taken from my cousin Eric's office in the North Tower. I still have no memory of ever being there. For three decades this sculpture stood in the plaza of the World Trade Center. The “Sphere” was conceived by the artist, Fritz Koenig, as a symbol of world peace. Damaged, it sits today in Battery Park as part of a memorial to the victims of September 11, 2001.

Wonderful shot! It's nice to know that it still exists even if for another reason that it stands for!

There is a terrible irony in it's original purpose and its fate. I imagine it is an irony that has been seen often in man's history. I looked for it online. It is sadly damaged but a fitting memorial of those who died that day. I agree with Faemike. It's nice to know it still exist. Beautiful image. Lovely capture of the sculpture and the fountain.

What a wonderful object! I have never seen it before, so thankyou so much for showing us. As for no memory of being there, Mark, I share that syndrome about rather too many occasions! I put it down to my brains hard drive having a finite capacity, and therefore chucking out the un-needed info.

What a fabulous piece! It reminds me of standing in front of The Bean in Chicago. Something about the curves ...

Glad it survived. Odd that you have no memory of taking this. It seems so extraordinary in that fountain. Glad you found it again. Beautiful shot.
