Description

At the Ballard Locks on Saturday, Bill drew my attention to a few herons sitting in a tree. The longer we looked, the more herons we saw! When I started looking at the images on the computer screen I saw even more herons. I'll give you a hint ... this shot contains more than ten! A couple of those birds had cameras, and they were looking for Denise. One of them told me he's been trying to get a really good shot of her for months! He finally got a decent lens, and is hoping to catch her the next time she comes around. ..... Full view pays. I've left it large enough that you can rummage around in those tree branches and count birds.

I see ten for sure and I have a question about a couple more. I love Hidden Object games so this was fun. I've seen them in water but not in a tree so this was great to see so many in the tree.

Well I found the ten easily enough but everyone's comments made me go back. Found two more for sure. Very impressive capture. I wonder if this represents a pecking order of some sort?

LOL! I've only ever seen one solitary one at the locks, but I have seen their nests. They're such teasers! Maybe it's better that I never got to see a whole flock of them, it would probably mean that I'd have to quit photography because my grail would have been found... Lucky you, to get this wonderful shot!

I think I read where their matting season begins in February. I think I heard a couple of proposals when I was not far from this tree. You've captured this sight perfectly. Great job.
