Caught this guy (a godwit, a shore bird in this area) as I walked along Humboldt Bay (Eureka, California) this afternoon.

I dont' think I've looked this closely at their coloring before. Great opportunity to do that here. Very clear and well defined.

nice pic ! i am wondering if this is a Marbled Godwit, the markings on the back look right, but it is many years since i saw one. also, they can be quite approachable...

What a shot! What a beak! What a bird! Chicago doesn't have these, I guess they don't like big, crowded, cold cities. I love the colors in this, those tawny-ish earth tones are super! And wow...what a beak--he can drill his way to China with that thing.

Ooooh, love that beak, so cool, long and tapered. Fine capture of the waterfowl, as it, and its reflection, trods determinedly through the shallow water, M. The body texture resemble those of some roosters I've seen.

"And for my next trick I shall come out and attempt to stand up." That's quite a weight h/she's carrying. Outstanding image and I just noticed the bird tracks in the water! Way cool.
