Description

This photo of Leif Ericson's statue at the feet of Reykjavik's cathedral (hidden behind renovation scaffolding here) is my personal way of paying tribute to the courage and determination of the thousands of Icelandic households, men and women who've been facing a severe economic recession since the beginning of the financial crisis in 2008...The Viking past and the current mutation of Iceland seem to be united in this photo...

Leif Ericson (Old Norse: Leifr Eiríksson) (c. 970 – c. 1020) was a Norse explorer who is regarded as the first European to land in North America (more precisely in Newfoundland) , nearly five hundred years before Christopher Columbus.

Là pour le coup, je vois un extraordinaire symbole : le monde moderne qui a besoin d'être réparé,faute de quoi il s'écroule et l'ancien monde encore plein de courage, de détermination...il est vrai qu'ils ne pouvaient pas deviner ce qui attendait leurs lointains descendants ! Une image avec un message...merci Jean-Luc de penser à ces gens et de nous faire penser aussi.

The site in Labrador where His settlement is, is a world heritage site, and has been largely reconstructed I believe. Really good photo, I love the details in the chainmail on the statue!
